I asked her once why she didn't wear them all the time, because they looked so beautiful with her blue eyes. She responded that they were too nice to wear all the time and she wouldn't want them to get lost. Still, I thought it was so sad for jewelry earrings of such beauty to be locked away in a box, unseen by any eyes but mine. When I was old enough to move out of my mother's house, she gave them to me as a going-away present. I don't wear them all the time, but I wear them often. They are as precious to me now as they were then, especially since they are now a constant reminder of my mother's love.
